The Tomb of the Unknown by AmericanDreaming The Tomb of the Unknown by AmericanDreaming
The Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier, Washington Square, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The statue depicts George Washington. 6/16/2017.

The lower left engraving reads: "In unmarked graves within this square lie thousands of unknown soldiers of Washington's army who died of wounds and sickness during the revolutionary war."

I found that eerie, as I looked around at the scenic park built atop this site. A group of rollerbladers whizzed by, and an older couple sat on a park bench singing Van Morrison with an acoustic guitar.

The source photograph, taken on my phone, was poor quality due to low light, but the ambience gave it a crypt-like green tinge which, combined with some image-filtering, captures how I felt standing there. There's a ton of American history to be seen in Philadelphia. It's the city where America and I were both born.

This seems like it could inspire an awesome dystopian story.

"Two hundred years after civilization was pulled from the darkness, the state runs everything. Who people breed with, what jobs they perform, even what modifications are done to their bodies are decided by the totalitarian regime. Since the rebuilding of society, this is all humans have ever known. Until one day, during a mutant attack on one of the border cities, a man stumbles into a bunker while fleeing in terror. He reads about the origins of this structure, a memorial to freedom and liberty in the days where it was dying. He reads about a nation that was founded on the principles of speaking one's mind, deciding one's own future, and the state being a protector of the people instead of owning them. Days after he entered the bunker, he left, with a new sense of purpose, a goal he and everyone else needed to reach..."

And that's all I could come up with in five minutes.
